ABOUT ME

CRÈME de la CRÈME à la HELLE is my personal celebration of craftsmanship, creativity, and timeless design, founded by me, Helle Høgsbro Krag. I graduated from the Danish Design School in 1991, and my journey has always been driven by a passion for fine arts and traditional techniques. I spent ten years as a stylist for film and commercials before opening my shop in Kompagnistræde, where I spent another decade curating unique finds and building connections with my customers.

When I closed my physical store, I embraced the world of pop-up shops, showcasing my creations at places like Holly Golightly, Atelier September, and The Apartment. The joy of opening a shop for just a few days each year allows me to share my carefully selected treasures with those who appreciate the stories behind each piece.

Twenty-five years ago, I started a DANIDA-supported project in Bolivia, collaborating with a small family-owned company that now produces all of my hand-knits and crochet items. This project and partnership still continues to this day.

I’ve always been a passionate collector of vintage fabrics, embroideries, curtains, and laces. I find these treasures at flea markets, during summer vacations, or while traveling. I’m always on the lookout for the finest pieces to fill my suitcase with, and I love the process of cutting, reassembling, and transforming these materials into something new. It’s my way of giving old textiles a second life while preserving the beauty of traditional craftsmanship.

What touches me most is when someone tells me that my pieces are passed down through generations and that they last. That, to me, is the greatest compliment I can receive. I have a deep appreciation for intricate craftsmanship, and I can spend hours admiring the delicate work of embroidery. The works of Marie Gudme Leth, who brought textile printing into the professional realm for women, have always been a great source of inspiration for me and continue to influence my creative journey.

At CRÈME de la CRÈME à la HELLE, every piece tells a story, and every item is a reflection of my love for timeless beauty, fine craftsmanship, and the art of transformation.
